Roundtable: Justification for, and Possibilities of, National and European Standards of Archaeological Documentation

Due to the spread of digital technologies, the application of the local standards of archaeological documentation and its theoretical and practical system of requirements has become a question not of development, but of implementation. Finding our way amongst the systems presently at work has become the greatest issue of the future. Through what controls, principles and communication channels can systems handling and visualizing archaeological documentation find each other? Is there a possibility to standardize these? Is it possible to find a common language for the otherwise similarly structured databases and systems for data management? Could this function as a channel and start communication between various regional and national systems, enabling the traffic and use of data archived far from each other?

The roundtable is organized by the Hungarian Cultural Heritage Service.

Expected speakers:
Gábor Virágos (Hungarian Cultural Heritage Service)
Dénes Jankovich-Bésán (Hungarian Cultural Heritage Office)
Gábor Márkus (Institut of Archaeological Sciences of ELTE University)
