General Information / Arriving to Budapest

Arriving by airplane

Budapest Ferihegy Airport - one of the newest in Europe - can easily be reached from all capitals and major cities of the world by direct or one-stop flights. Most flights to and from the United States arrive in the mid afternoon and depart in the early morning.

Lower airfares for travelers may be available if you book a round-trip airfare to a major European destination (eg. Frankfurt or London) and then book a separate fare from that destination to Budapest. You may also want to consult your travel agent to find the best fares or try travel websites like expedia.com.

There are three terminals at the airport. The Terminal 1 is used only by the low cost airlines, the Terminal 2A is for the MALÉV (Hungarian Airlines) planes, the other airlines are using the Terminal 2B. The Terminal 2A and 2B is close together, they are in walking distance, Terminal 1 is accessible by bus or by the Airport Minibus Service.

The cheapest way to get to the city centre using the vehicles operated by BKV (Budapest Transport Ltd). From Terminal 2A and 2B: the bus Nr. 200 departures from the stop between the terminals on the arrival floor and links the airport to the end station of Metro 3 (Kőbánya-Kispest, blue line). From Terminal 1 you can choose bus Nr. 200 or Nr. 93 to the same metro station (Kőbánya-Kispest), the stops are situated to the left from the exit of the terminal. The bus Nr. 200 operates from 4.55 till 0.15, in the late evening (after 23.00) it has got connection to the night transportation network instead of the metro. The tickets are 230 HUF if you buy it in advance by kiosks or ticket selling machines and 260 on the vehicle.

The simplest means of transportation from the Airport to any place in Budapest is via minibuses. This door-to-door Airport Minibus Service is reasonably priced (one way ticket: HUF 2300, return ticket: HUF 3900). The minibus service is located outside of customs area. Travelers will purchase a voucher and proceed to the waiting area for your van to arrive. The wait is generally 10-20 minutes. Those who schedule round-trip transportation must call to re-confirm their return trip at least 24 hours in advance of their flight.
