Professor ANCA L. RALESCU

Anca Ralescu is a professor of Computer Science in the School of Computing Sciences and Informatics of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati, where she also leads the Machine Learning and Computational Intelligence Lab. A graduate from University of Bucharest and Indiana University, Bloomington, she joined University of Cincinnati in 1983. She was a Visiting Research Fellow in the Engineering Mathematics Department of Bristol University, England (1986-87). During 1990-91 she held the LIFE Endowed Chair of Fuzzy Theory in the Systems Science Department at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and during 1991-95 visited the Laboratory for International Fuzzy Engineering (LIFE) where she was Assistant Director and led the Image Understanding Group. She returned often in Japan including at the Brain Science Institute of the Institute for Physics and Chemistry (RIKEN) in 1998-99, 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2010, and, in 2006-2007, at Kyoto University, Japan. She visited University of Paris VI in 1997 and again in 2004, University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) in Skudai, Malaysia (2008 and 2010) and National University of Malaysia in Putrijaya (2010). She is author of over 130 papers in areas including image understanding, fuzzy systems, machine learning.
